Vaishno Devi Temple, located in the Trikuta Mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage destinations in India. Devotees visit the temple to seek the blessings of Goddess Vaishno Devi. Here are some of the key rituals and aarti timings at the Vaishno Devi Temple:

vaishno devi rituals and timings

Darshan (Viewing the Deity): Devotees undertake a trek of approximately 12-13 kilometers from Katra to reach the temple. The main shrine of Vaishno Devi houses three natural rock formations known as “Pind.” Pilgrims stand in queue for darshan to view these holy Pinds.

Aarti at Bhawan: Aarti is performed at the main temple of Vaishno Devi twice a day – once in the morning and again in the evening. The morning aarti, known as “Mangal Aarti,” takes place at dawn before sunrise. The evening aarti, known as “Sandhya Aarti,” occurs just after sunset. These aartis are accompanied by the chanting of hymns and the ringing of bells, creating a divine atmosphere.

Bhajans and Kirtans: Throughout the day, bhajans (devotional songs) and kirtans (singing of religious hymns) are performed by devotees in and around the temple complex. These devotional songs are dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi.

Charan Paduka Darshan: Devotees also visit the “Charan Paduka” temple, where it is believed that the footprints of Goddess Vaishno Devi are imprinted in a rock. This site is considered highly sacred.

Yatra Parchi (Entry Slip): To manage the large number of pilgrims, the temple administration issues Yatra Parchis or entry slips. Pilgrims are required to obtain these slips before starting the trek, and they specify the date and time of the visit to the temple. It is essential to carry and show this slip during the darshan.

Prasad: After the darshan, devotees receive prasad (blessed food offerings) from the temple priests. It typically includes a small packet of sacred offerings like the holy water from the cave, dry fruits, and other items.

Pilgrimage Completion: After visiting the temple, devotees return to Katra, where they can collect certificates of having completed the pilgrimage. Many pilgrims also choose to visit other temples and shrines in the area.
