Here are 10 travel tips for a perfect honeymoon in Ooty:
1. Taking the toy train to reach Ooty
Declared a world heritage by UNESCO, the Nilgiri Mountain railway will take you through the forests, dark snaking tunnels, sharp bends, up and down the slope, amid the mist and fog, birds and trees dancing along, whistling, passing through the stunning gorge, sunlight dancing above and dream-like drizzling and uncountable bridges. It will be a once in a lifetime experience which would be best enjoyed with your partner. The train journey covers a distance of total 46 km in a span of 5 hours, starting from Mettupalayam to Ooty. One of the most surprising facts is that the track is the steepest one in Asia. Book the tickets beforehand because it is very much crowded.
2.Take warm clothes with you
As Ooty experiences a rather cold temperature as compared to the other places in Southern regions of India during monsoon, please care to take some warm clothes with you. Enjoy wearing jackets and cute caps and do not forget pose and capture your memories for ever. This vacation will be the most memorable one as it is your first as a couple; so make the best out of it.
3. Do not jam yourselves with itineraries
Always remember, You are not here for sight-seeing, it is your honeymoon. It’s time for making new memories and not run around with your backpack! So, avoid taking those holiday packages from travel agencies and plan yourself. Think and Plan it efficiently before hand so that you may get the best out of this holiday. Leave enough room in your itinerary for that couples’ stroll each morning or evening in the lap of the hills. Nature, in its own glory, can bring two hearts closer to become soul mates!
4. Enjoy boating in Ooty Lake
Boating will be a great thing to do if you just want to spend some quality time with your special one. Just take a pedalling boat and enjoy for 1-2 hours. A Shikara would be better for lazy ones. The song “Dil Deewana” of the movie Maine Pyaar Kiya was shot here. If one of you is filmy type then this should be enough motivation for you to go there. Moreover, you should do this because you won’t be doing much of the sight-seeing and this will be one of those rare moments when you will go out.As you know, full moon night is the most romantic night ever. So you may also try night time boating.
5. Animal Safari at Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary
This thing has its own advantages. Enjoy an elephant safari here which takes on a tour through the jungle. You will get to see many wild animals even on your way towards the reserve. Spread over an area 321 km, this densely forested area will be a treat to watch. It is also a very different and exciting experience.
6.Hiking and trekking
If you two are a bit sporty types then do not forget to get your hiking gear with yourselves. Ooty is perfect for this adventure activity. You can go hiking through the pine forests in Pykara. It will be really relaxing as well as romantic. You may spend some quality time with your wife/husband and walk while observing the scenic beauty of nature. The atmosphere is very silent which will help you to communicate in case, it is an arranged marriage. Even if it is a love marriage, then also the silent walk would be advantageous because you guys will get to rediscover each other in newer ways. Let that platinum moment of your life happen here, amidst these mesmerising hills.
7. Candle light dinner
On a full moon night, try this kind of dinner and create a romantic ambience. Talk with your partner, get to know him/her and spend the quality time that you would cherish forever. The cool climate of Ooty will be an add-on to the already charming atmosphere. The breeze touching your face will help you feel comfortable. You may ask your hotel or your resort authorities to arrange that and voila! A special night is ready for your someone special.
8.Savoring good tea
This could also be a romantic thing to do. Hire a two wheeler for a ride and have some masala tea at any roadside tea stall or a big café. Straight from the tea estates, tea is a speciality here. For all the chai lovers out there, it would be their favourite thing to do. For the honeymooners, it is really a romantic thing: first, the bike ride and then the thirst-quenching tea. You may be against this fact but trust me; love is all about small things. These small things will make your better half feel special and lovable.
9.For the wardrobe
For ladies, you can team your dresses up with printed and multicoloured caps or jackets with fur ear muffs and a cap. Guys, you can either keep it casual with usual jeans paired with a smart shirt or a plain white tee. For a formal dinner, opt for a jacket as well. Footwear usually depends upon the upper clothing, so this is a part we are leaving for you to decide on. It is said that the nature of a person matters more than his/her looks; but let’s face it we all see the looks first in a guy or a girl. Clothes really put an impression of you on the other person. So beware during packing!
10.Shopping in the main market
Any trip is incomplete without purchasing souvenirs for your loved ones. While shopping you guys may take a walk hand in hand around the market. This could be a fun thing to do with your partner after all the romanticism. Besides shopping the usual handicrafts, show-pieces and clothes, try some specialities of the town. Buy some delicious home-made chocolates and mind-soothing tea for yourselves and your family.
There are many other things that you may do with your partner there. I have written the tips that you must follow for a perfect honeymoon. Happy honeymoon and enjoy your stay in Ooty, the queen of hill stations.
