1. Prague, Czech Republic

Did the sizzling chemistry of Anushka and Shah Rukh make you starry eyed? If you don’t know which movie we’re talking about, then here it is: When Harry Met Sejal! Shot extensively in Prague, I’m sure you fell in love with the beautiful scenes and sceneries of this movie. Prague is considered to be the cultural capital of Bohemia, and rightly so! You’ll fall in love with the sheer number of castles, museums, and the beautiful cobblestone streets. Years old taverns, the old world pubs, still run with the same zeal and style! Trying a cold cut platter or a jug full of beer in one of these 16th century underground pubs will make your day for sure. This city is rich in heritage and culture, most of which is undestroyed as the perils of Second World War did not touch the city. Oh, and did we mention, BEER? Thus, if you like culture, serenity, and just sheer, unadulterated beauty, then Prague is the place you need to be!

Best time to visit: Average temperature in summer and winter are 13 Co and 4.3 Co. The months of March to July are the best time to come across pleasant climates.

Things to See: This would be a never-ending list. So, some of the most famous must-visit places are  Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with the Prague astronomical clock, the Jewish Quarter, Petřín hill, St. Vitus Cathedral, Vyšehrad etc.

Things to Eat: Goulash, Cold cut meat platter, knedlíky, trdelník etc

2. Bruges, Belgium

If you loved PK, then you’d surely understand this pick. Remember Chaar Kadam? Remember when Sushant and Anushka were going around and romancing at the backdrop of one of the most picturesque, almost dream-like old hamlet? Yup, that amazing place was Bruges, located in Belgium. Also, fun fact, Bruges is an oval city and falls under the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Consequently, it was because of this beautiful historical city that we started rooting for the Sushant-Anushka pair. The beautiful city is famous for its canals and waterways and thus is also sometimes called the “Venice of the North.” This is one of the most well-preserved towns in Europe. You will find most of the architectures, even residential buildings as old as the 16th or 17th century, still in its most beautiful and well-preserved forms.

Bes time to visit: Average summer and winter temperatures are 17 Co and 4 Co respectively. So visit during April to July to enjoy the weather and also watch the Weeping Willows start to turn green.

Things to see: Some of the most famous places in Bruges include The Church of Our Lady, Basilica of the Holy Blood, Belfry & Halle, Markt, Town Hall, Liberty of Bruges, Groeninge Museum, Memling, Museum, Sint-Jansspitaal, Béguinage, Dijver Mansions etc.

Things to Eat: Famous Belgian Brews, served directly from the taps of the pubs and of course the most famous rabbit meat preparation!

3. Sri Lanka

A period drama set in an era long lost with beautiful vintage cars make up Bombay Velvet (among other things). And thus, the best location that director Anurag Kashyap came up with was, of course, Sri Lanka. And rightly so! The island nation of Sri Lanka is home to romantic landscapes, huge mountains, adventurous forests, lush tea gardens, and golden beaches. There is no shortage of picturesque places and awe-inspiring spots- historic, cultural, and natural. Thus, Sri Lanka could be the answer for all your “where to go?’ queries – to travel with the loved one or with kids or that adventure hitch hiker friend of yours.

Best time to visit: Being a primarily summer country and its proximity to the equator, makes SriLanka having a high temperature through out the year. December to March would be a fairly pleasant time for you to visit.

Places to visit: Ella, Nuwara Eliya, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla Cave Temple, Adams Peak, Old Dutch Fort at Galle, Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Mirissa, Yala National Park etc are some of the places you must visit, among others!

Things to eat: Fish ambul thiyal, Kottu, Parippu, Lamprais, Hoppers,  Polos, Wambatu moju etc. are the must tries!

4. Spain

If you watched Dil Dhadakne Do and loved the beauty of the places visited by the crew, then worry no more, since Spain is one of them! And no wonder- the beauty of Spain is to die for! Spain’s culture is heavily permeated by Roman heritage and you’ll see that in the architecture of the beautiful buildings. From ancient castles left by the Romans and the medieval castles to the buzzing and vibrant cities of Barcelona and Madrid- you’ll find it all in Spain! And as Bollywood-y we Indians are, can we ever stop dreaming about our own Zindagi na Milegi Dobara moments? Spain is an amazing melting point of then and now, of stability and lucidity and that means it has something to cater to every traveller’s choices! Best time to visit: Average temperatures range between 24 Co – 10 Co. So you can visit during April to June and September to October to have a nice weather.

Places to visit: Palacio Real, La Concha, Aqueduct of Segovia, Cuenca, Ibiza, Sagrada Familia, El Escorial, Mezquita of Cordoba, Alhambra, the Prado and Paseo del Artes are some of the must visit sites.

Things to eat: You should absolutely try Tapas, Tortilla Espanola, Paella, Gazpacho in Andalusia, Crema Catalana, Gambas Ajillo, Queso Manchego, Allioli, Jamon Iberico

5. Vienna, Austria

Aishwarya Rai’s entrance made us all stop in our tracks, didn’t it? And do you know what made that entrance more awe-inspiring? The beautiful and historic city of Vienna in the backdrop! The vibrant cultural scene, happening nightlife, the open hotels and cafes of this beautiful place seamlessly complimented Aishwarya’s look! Also, the cobbled and quaint roads are an added plus to all this- a perfect excuse to explore the city on foot! Seriously, you must visit the historic palaces, including Baroque castles and gardens.

Best time to visit: The average temperature ranges from 19 Co to -1Co. Ideally, you can visit during April – to October to have a pleasant travel.

Places to visit: The must visit places in Vienna include the Royal Palace of Schloss Schönbrunn, Schonbrunner Gardens, Imperial Palace (Hofburg), and the Kunsthistorisches Museum, amongst others. Also, you can catch a live music performance in Staatsoper, Musikverein or the Konzerthaus- we hear it’s absolutely exquisite!

Things to eat: While you’re here, you must try Apfelstrudel, Almdudler, Buchteln, Einspänner, Erdapfel Gulasch, Esterházy Torte, Gemischter Satz etc.
