10 must visit places for adventure sports in India

India is home to a lot of adventure sports such as rock climbing, scuba diving, paragliding, river rafting and mountain biking.  Adventure sports involve a lot of risks but yes they do offer a lot of recreation and sense of achievement if one is able to make it happen. In this article, we have gathered a list of the places with adventure sports in India.

1. SCUBA DIVING

It is the kind of recreational activity in which one do deep diving in the sea and uses scuba for breathing purpose. Its scope is not only limited to leisure level but it is also important sometimes such as during research and military purpose.

Places in India where one can enjoy such adventure sports are:

  • ANDAMAN ISLAND

This beautiful island is surrounded by the Indian Ocean from all sides. Enriched with coral reefs and majestic marine life, this place has a lot of scope for scuba diving. Being far away it is scarcely populated but offers well-trained scuba divers for a one-time dive as well as long-term training.

  •  LAKSHWADEEP ISLAND

This place is a dream place for divers.  The fact that most of the things under the sea are kept like they are without much interference from human beings, make undersea journeys pristine and real. It is still unexplored and has rich coral composition. It is one of the best places to indulge in scuba diving.

2. MOUNTAIN BIKING

Mountain biking is the sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, using specially designed mountain bikes. Mountain bikes share similarities with other bikes but incorporate features designed to enhance durability and performance in rough terrain.

  • PANG TO RUMTSE

This beautiful terrain is located in Ladakh and often goes unnoticed by tourist. Ladakh boasts of great flora and mesmerizing sites. It is good to travel around this place with a bicycle with the purpose of knowing the place up close. Having said so, it’s also one of the most difficult terrains to bike but the adventure is unlimited.

  • PARTS OF SIKKIM

Sikkim is known throughout India for its unique beauty. Himalayan Shangri-la is one of the famous location in Sikkim. It offers a great scenic view for the mountain cycling.

3. PARAGLIDING

  • Bir, billing

Bir is a beautiful, small village in Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is the best location for Tandem Paragliding in India and surrounded by the great Himalayan range. Normal paragliding flight is for 20 to 30 mins which include take off from Billing at the altitude of 8000 feet from sea level and landing at Bir which is 4500 feet from sea level. One has to go up to the paragliding take off point at Billing. It’s one of the most picturesque places in India to take the leap of faith. Paragliding courses are also available here, operated by private organizations, which runs for a month or more depending upon the course structure.

  • KAMSHET

Kamshet is a beautiful destination for paragliding in the state of Maharashtra. It is located at about 110km from Mumbai and 45km from Pune, surrounded by the beauty of the Sahyadri Ranges and valleys. Here in Kamshet, a daylong course of Paragliding will take you through paragliding of 3 different types – Classic Tandem, Instructional Tandem, and Acro Tandem. A two-seater plane will take you high up in the air from where you can take your paragliding flight with a certified instructor.

4. RAFTING

  • RISHIKESH

This place is famous among tourists in India as well as outside. The White Water River Rafting in the Ganges is number one activity in Rishikesh. It is a must visit place at least once in a lifetime. It is number one place in India for any kind of adventure sports, be it river rafting or bungy jumping or rock climbing. There are many operators who conduct River Rafting on the Ganges. It takes around 2 to 4 hours total, with the actual river-rafting time being around 30 to 40mins.

  • Kullu-Manali

Kullu is another famous destination for river rafting. Rafting through the forceful Beas river is a delight for all adventure lovers. Here, the river offers only basic grades (I to II) of rapids, thus making it doable for most of the amateur travellers. Rafting stretch is from Pirdi down to Jhiri, encompassing approximately 14kms over Beas river.

5. TREKKING

  • SHEPHERD TRAIL

One of the most beautiful and scenic treks in the region on Himachal Pradesh, the shepherd trail or Gaddi trek is ventured onto by trekkers, wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.It is an 18days trek where the trail stretches from an elevation of 2000+mtrs to 4800mtrs crossing Kalihani Pass which is the highest point in the trek. The Gaddi Trek, which is one of the alpine treks in Himachal Pradesh, passes through numerous shepherd villages and grazing cattle farms tucked high in the mountains. Gurgling rivers, alpine forests, meadows and wild animals are some of the things one can experience en route.

  • Dodital

Located in Uttarakhand this place boasts of snow capped mountains which offer a great view. One gets to experience the Himalayan Mountain from close vicinity due to which it attracts the explorers from all over the world.

As you see, India has great scope for adventure sports being served throughout the country because of its rich and diverse terrains. One must visit any of these places and enjoy the adrenalin rush, which is sure to etch in one’s mind way more than just a mere experience.
